Piedmont Park

Piedmont Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, America's most noted landscape artist. It covers over 180 acres, and is adjacent to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. It is Atlanta's most popular park, and is located close to downtown. It is home to several art festivals, jazz festivals, rock performances, and the Peachtree Road Race. The views include an impressive hilltop cityscape, which shows why Atlanta is known for being "the city among the trees".

In the heart of Midtown, Atlanta's most loved park,Piedmont Park has an interesting history. It has served as a farm, a world war I encampment,a driving club, and as the grounds for the 1895 cotton states and international exposition, All before becoming a public park. Nearly 3,000,000 people a year visit Piedmont Park, making it one of the most heavily used parks in the Southeastern United States.

Piedmont Parks grounds were part of the battle at Peachtree Creek during the civil war, at the time of general Sherman's attack on Atlanta. Hardee's Corps. and general Bate's confederate division occupied the Northern edge of the park on July 20,1864. They were part of the outer defensive line against Sherman's approach.

Piedmont Park is the oldest and largest park in the Atlanta Metro region. More than three Million people visit the park each year. Midtown is a collection of very well kept neighborhoods bordering Piedmont Park. You'll find unique and interesting shops and restaurants in this area, with cuisine from around the world. This is perhaps Atlanta's most cosmopolitan area.
